Article 1 (Purpose)

These rules govern the operation of the Editorial Board for IGEE Proceedings, an international, multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed, and open-access journal published by the Institute for Global Engagement & Empowerment (IGEE). The Editorial Board ensures the journal upholds its mission of fostering holistic and integrated approaches to achieving the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by disseminating high-quality, impactful research that addresses complex sustainability challenges.

Article 2 (Composition of the Editorial Board)

The Editorial Board is established to oversee the editing, reviewing, and publication processes for IGEE Proceedings.

  • 1. Permanent Editorial Board Members
    • ○ Editor-in-Chief: Chairman of IGEE.
    • ○ Managing Editor: Director of the Center for Global Sustainability
    • ○ Editors:
      • ■ Vice Chairman of IGEE.
      • ■ Director of the Ban Ki-moon Center for International Cooperation.
      • ■ Director of the Leadership Center.
  • 2. Appointed Editorial Board Members
    • ○ Editors and Assistant Editors may be appointed for specific duties/circumstances.
  • 3. Terms and Appointment Details
    • ○ Permanent Editorial Board Members will be appointed for the same period as their appointments at IGEE, with the possibility of reappointment.

Article 3 (Editorial Board Meetings and Decision-Making)

  • 1. The Editor-in-Chief convenes and presides over Editorial Board meetings.
  • 2. The Editorial Board meets regularly before each issue’s publication to:
    • ○ Appoint reviewers.
    • ○ Review and approve manuscripts for publication.
    • ○ Address strategic and operational matters.
  • 3. Meetings require the attendance of more than half the Board Members. Decisions are approved by a majority of those present.
  • 4. Offline meetings may be replaced by email consultations or virtual discussions.

Article 4 (Roles and Responsibilities of the Editorial Board)

  • 1. Oversee the submission, review, and acceptance process for manuscripts.
  • 2. Ensure submissions align with the journal's scope, including topics related to SDGs such as climate change, health, education, poverty, and inequality.
  • 3. Appoint reviewers and manage the peer-review process.
  • 4. Ensure manuscripts are free of plagiarism and meet publication ethics.
  • 5. Edit and organize journal content for both electronic and print publication.
  • 6. Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the journal’s content and contributors.
  • 7. Address issues related to the online and offline dissemination of the journal.

Article 5 (Decision Appeal Policies)

  • 1. Appeal Process
    Authors may appeal decisions regarding the peer review or editorial process by submitting a written appeal to the Editorial Board.
  • 2. Initial Handling
    The Editorial Board forwards the author’s appeal to the original reviewers. If the reviewers accept the appeal, their review results may be revised accordingly.
  • 3. Final Handling
    If the original reviewers reject the appeal, the Editorial Board reviews the appeal and the reviewers’ comments. If the Board finds the appeal valid, alternative reviewers may be appointed for reevaluation.

Article 6 (Alignment with Journal Mission)

The Editorial Board ensures all its activities align with the mission of IGEE Proceedings, which emphasizes innovative and interdisciplinary research contributing to sustainable development. Editorial policies will reflect the journal's goal of fostering collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to address global challenges and promote social responsibility.

Article 7 (Enforcement Date)

These rules shall take effect from September 1st, 2024.
